Cowls are made of stainless steel sheets a thickness of 0.5mm to 0.8mm. They are mainly used for flue gas and they are resistant to the corrosive effects of acidic condensate formed during the combustion process. Fitting a cowl on top of the chimney is preventing the smoke from flowing back down the chimney and into the house.
